“The 4-Hour Workweek” by Tim Ferriss is a game-changer for both work and life.
After reading it, I knew I had to change my modus operandi.
This book is more than just a read; it’s an encounter, a mental adjustment, and a paradigm shift all bundled into one.
I was enthralled with Ferriss’s contagious energy and his unwavering quest of living life on his terms as soon as I finished the first chapter.
It’s contagious.
His perspective is unique because it boldly challenges common knowledge while offering a roadmap for building a life of freedom, autonomy, and fulfillment in place of the cultural conventions that keep so many of us stuck in a cycle of workaholism and burnout.
“The question you should be asking isn’t ‘What do I want?’, or ‘What are my goals?’, but ‘What would excite me?’”
“Our goal isn’t to create a business that is as large as possible, but rather a business that bothers us at little as possible.”
— Tim Ferriss
A significant insight that resonated with me is Ferriss’s notion of “Lifestyle Design.”
He challenges readers to reevaluate the current quo, define success according to their own standards, and create a lifestyle that puts an emphasis on the things that really count, including traveling, following passions, and spending more time with loved ones.
The best part is that Ferriss offers practical methods and tactics to help make it happen rather than just preaching.
“The 4-Hour Workweek” is brimming with useful advice and real-world examples that enable readers to reclaim their time and take charge of their lives, from outsourcing menial activities to automating income streams.
The most refreshing thing about Ferriss’s writing, in my opinion, is his straightforward style.
With his distinctive conversational style, which makes you feel as though you’re having a casual conversation with a close friend over a cup of coffee (or maybe a bottle of wine, depending on the time of day!), every page is packed with knowledge, insights, and practical counsel.
The most motivational feature of “The 4-Hour Workweek” might be the accounts of actual individuals who have applied Ferriss’s ideas to their lives and experienced amazing life changes.
These case studies, which include both seasoned executives and aspiring business owners, demonstrate that it is quite possible to live life on your terms.
With this book as my guide, I started to orient all my business activities to my lifestyle, instead of orienting my lifestyle to support my business activities.
I had already ditched the 9–5, years ago — I was working for myself, shipping products worldwide from my garage — but …..I still didn’t have time or location freedom.
How I Created a 6 Figure 3D Printing Business from Home
In 2017, I started a 3d printing business from home, and by 2020, I had scaled it to over six figures.
I was answering all calls, emails, I get at least 5–10 pre-sales questions per day, usually the same questions from different people all over the world.
I was creating all marketing and social media content and posting every week.
All while running a print lab with 11 machines, managing inventory of accessories, and boxing/shipping all orders.
All in all, I was working 40–60 hours, even though I had no boss.
This is the dream, right?
Problem. I love the outdoors, I moved to Washington to really get out and explore, and I didn’t have time to do that in my old corporate career, and I still didn’t have much time to do that in my self-made-entrepreneur “no boss” business I was so proud of.
Then I stumbled on Tim’s book through an affiliate marketing friend on Facebook, and realized I simply needed to find the right solutions and tools that would facilitate my lifestyle.
I needed to solve my biggest conundrum.

If you love doing something, it would be nice to make money doing it. Right?
Problem: Once I am actively engaged in generating money doing that thing that I love, if successful enough, I become dependent on that income. I am now OBLIGATED to do that thing constantly.
At this point my joy becomes work, and it becomes less enjoyable to me.
Tim Ferriss made me realize that it’s a matter of creative thinking, time arrangement and steadfast “eyes on the prize” mindset — oriented towards making everything bend to the lifestyle I desired.
And this would first require asking myself what I truly want.
I do not want a life without responsibility….. but I do want a life where my responsibilities are not chaining me from doing things I want to do, when I want to do them.
I also do not want to be stuck in the pattern where being the productivity-optimized nutropic-guzzling CEO-overachiever modus is seen as the only way to escape.
I want to earn, without working.
No cap. No filter. No guilt.
No “but, but, but …hard work is the only thing that makes a man blah blah blah” voice in my head.
I am building all of my endeavors with a single vision in mind — each thing must be tailored to earn with as little time investment as possible.
Don’t get me wrong, I still work hard on things that I love, I just don’t obligate myself to.
There is a huge difference, mentally and energetically in my life.
I simply don’t try to make each business grow like a cancer, I treat each thing very passively, and though I may not earn as much as someone else who tries to push things overdrive with the zeal of a cokehead stockbroker from the 80s, I am earning enough to pay for a house, a car, all my needs, all my hobbies, take care of my elderly relatives and pets, and I only work 2–4 hours per week, approx.
Mission already accomplished, and its only been 3 years.
And now I am growing while carefully curating my opportunity selection so that I don’t choose things that will create a burdensome feeling to my life.
In conclusion, “The 4-Hour Workweek” is your go-to manual if you’re prepared to throw off the chains of conventional wisdom, redefine success according to your own standards, and build a life filled with passion, purpose, and adventure.
I promise that after reading it once, you won’t be able to view life or work the same way.
