Be Careful What You Wish For…..
The practice of requesting identification (ID) to verify age while buying alcohol has a long history in the USA.
The legal drinking age in the US has changed over time, with individual states establishing their own restrictions until the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 established a national minimum age of 21.
The goal of this law was to lower the number of young adult alcohol-related accidents and deaths.
Did it work?
Well, it depends who you ask, who is reading the numbers. The vast majority of drunk drivers and drunk driving related fatalities include drivers who are above the drinking age, and that has always been true.

Though progress has been made, our commitment to eliminate drunk driving is stronger than ever. Visit us for facts and…www.responsibility.org
Largely, teens still drink in high school, in the same numbers they always have, there are still keg parties, and underage drinking is still prevalent.
Why?
….. drumroll….. they don’t have to buy it, they have older friends buy it for them. Thus, the law was never truly effective. But it made many people feel better about their morality perhaps. Consensus placebo, for the greater good, of course.
That being said…..
Regardless of one’s age or appearance, it is now customary to show identification when buying alcohol anywhere in the USA. Although it may seem pointless or unreasonable to card people who obviously appear to be of legal drinking age, this practice has developed into a standard operating procedure to guarantee legal compliance and people everywhere just go through the motions without protest.
Establishments strictly follow the policy to prevent legal ramifications.
Age verification through ID checks is now a universal standard procedure in the alcohol purchasing process even in cases where it truly makes no sense whatsoever.
What this has resulted in — is myself at 41 with a beard having to show ID always, no exceptions.
Our parents, some with gray hair and no reasonable possibility that they could be teenagers in disguises, also have to present ID.
It is just a compliance formality.
If you refuse, you are usually rejected and the bouncer is called if you don’t just walk away.
Doesn’t matter how utterly stupid and ridiculous it all is. You will either jump through this hoop when asked, or you will ruin your night. Most people jump through the hoop.
It will be very hard to undo this reality, or create a situation where we go back to anything that makes logical sense, and the justification is often something like :
“C’mon man, I’m just doing my job. Everyone has to do it, just get it over with”.
And because most of us don’t mind wasting 3 seconds to show an ID to get an alcoholic beverage, we jump through that hoop and don’t care.
What if we pinned that identification to other things?
Things like your credit score?
What about carbon credits?
What about…..Vaccination?
That’s where I draw the line personally, and NOT because I don’t believe in vaccination, or that I am against it.
Contrary, I am vaccinated for many things and just vaccinated my cat against rabies. When it’s proven, tested, and safe, it only makes sense.
That does NOT mean I am ok with giving corporate entities a green light to make their products mandatory. This does not mean I think I have a right to impose my sense of security onto others by demanding they accept an injection to enter a public space.
I am adamantly against this — not just because I don’t think it will accomplish what it seeks to accomplish, but because I see what will happen, a mile away.
Not “can happen”. Not “might happen”. WILL happen, if we let this push advance itself.
Normalization.
Compliance even when there is no logical reason.
Universal Proof of Vaccination, even when there is no danger at all.
Why shouldn’t we expect that to happen?
It’s how we treat alcohol with ID.
Carding a 60 year old with silvery hair has no logic behind it. No useful benefit. It is just mindless compliance.
Everyone does it, so how dare we make an exception for you, punk?
Instead of making any arguments against vaccine ID, I am just going to paint another picture. Contemplate it.
It’s 2080
The last major shutdown happened 40 years ago. We have already wiped out many diseases thanks to advances in knowledge of the gut and cellular microbiome and changes to our diet eliminating harmful processed food abuse, and we have found a way to prevent many diseases with various technological breakthroughs.
Yet, because we implemented a Universal Vaccine ID back when Disease X made it’s way around in the world in 2030, we now present a vaccine ID everywhere, even though there has not been a pandemic in 40 years. Even though many diseases now have treatments to reverse the condition.
Did Vaccines wipe out disease? Actually no, lots of other technical advancements made treatment and remission more possible, but vaccines do help some people avoid some diseases without ever needing treatment.
Why are we still presenting Vaccine ID?
Because it’s normal, expected, and everyone has to do it, regardless of it being sensible, effective, or useful.
“I’m just doing my job mate, stop making it a big deal!”
What about Carbon Credits?
In that same 2080 future — let’s pretend for the sake of example that we have revolutionized transportation, 1/2 of everything is electric now, 1/2 is hydrogen / hydrazine fuel, clean energy has largely been achieved for private personal travel, and for the airlines through using Hydrazine. (Hydrazine is normally reserved for fighter jets, but is now commercially available)
Yet, to leave my smart city, I still have to present an ID and must possess enough carbon credit to leave.
I don’t have enough credits. So I can’t leave. Sad Trumpets.
Does it matter that most of my travel is clean energy based and I am not truly leaving a big footprint?
No. Just a formality now.
It’s ok, the checkpoint agents are just doing their job, it’s just a formality.
Why don’t you stop hassling us and just comply?
You’ll save up enough carbon credits…. maybe next year bro?
Thank you for reading!
Until next time….
Onward and Upward Everybody!
